Barnet manager Dean Brennan has gone viral, with fans praising the Dubliner for his passionate interview about the state of the club.

44-year-old Brennan was speaking after Barnet's 2-1 victory over Altrincham on Tuesday evening, a win that took the Harrow-based club to fifth in the National League after 8 games.

Far from being in a jubilant mood after the game, Brennan took the opportunity to use his post match interview to passionately call on the fans to stop 'moaning' and to get behind the team.

"We've got young lads that read the social media. I don't read it, I'm not on it. I've got young lads reading social media. I've got stuff on social media going against my goalkeeper. Does that help? Does it? Does that help?" Brennan began ,"Everybody's all geniuses now."

"You know what happens in life when you're in the tough times, you see the real characters, the real people. That's what I'm looking for in this club, character. I want our fans to come with us with it. There's a message for you. Alright? Do not edit that by the way.

"I want that to go out, because that's very important. We're very open and very honest with our supporters. But when I'm hearing all negativity when we're playing well, good goal by Altrincham by the way. Good goal on the counter-attack. Fair play, good goal, Justin's a good player, pace... And I've got to listen to that moaning in my ear.

"Just relax. I know what I'm doing. I took this team over bottom of the table. Have a look where you are yeah? There's a lot of other teams below us. That's how I feel about it. I'm very, very angry and frustrated.

"If any fan wants to come and see me, my door's open. Come in and see me. Have a cup of tea with me. Come and see me, and I'll explain where we are at, and who's injured and what's happening.

"So, I want us to get behind our players. Not moan at them. Not sing when we're winning. I want us to be a proper football club. All I ever hear is moaning. Moaning about the chairman. The beer's not good enough, that's not good enough. Come on man, get behind the group, get behind the team.

"And by the way there was only 900-odd fans here tonight. It was announced as 1,200, there was 900 here. We're a big club aren't we."

When asked on how important it was to keep their home a fortress, Brennan said: "Yeah, it would help if we brought more than 900 supporters in. If we could 2,000 in. That would help the chairman, that would help us get a centre-forward. If people start buying more tickets, and beers and sweets and all that at The Hive.

"But, apparently that's not good enough. All I hear is moaning."

Brennan's comments, while strong, have gone down a storm on social media with plenty of Barnet fans and supporters from other teams praising the Dubliner for his raw, honest interview.

Here's a selection of the positive reaction on social media:

"Fair play to him, too much negativity on social media from sports fans, if they do have injury troubles then being 2 points off top is hardly bad going."

"Fair play to him, media training now means we have to listen to the same old crap from a lot of managers/players " we gave 100%, we learnt a lot" etc etc, nice to see someone telling it like it is."

"Barnet manager Dean Brennan could be talking about many Football club (fans)supporters that go on social media."

"Well said Dean."

"Great manger with a lot of passion.. something we’ve lacked for some time. Hopefully he can get us up this year!"

"Fair play to the lad, he’s told it like it is….you’ve got to admire his honesty…."
