Eve Hewson kicked out of family band for being 'too enthusiastic'
The actress spent time in the recording studio with her brothers during the pandemic, but says she got her marching orders for 'ruining their vibe'
Eve Hewson has told how she was once kicked out of her family band for being too enthusiastic.
The Bad Sisters star moved back into the family’s Killiney mansion with parents Bono and Ali Hewson during the pandemic.
She and her three siblings passed the time in the U2 frontman’s recording studio at the bottom of the garden. But Eve, 33, fell out of favour with brothers Jordan, 35, John, 23, and Inhaler frontman Elijah, 25, for her bass guitar playing.
She revealed: “We have a studio at the end of [my parents’] garden, where [we] usually end up, in the middle of the night, writing stupid songs.

“I actually got kicked out of the family band for being too enthusiastic. One evening, I noticed they were all in the studio together. I came in, I grabbed a bass, I started slapping the bass.
“And they said, ‘You gotta go. This isn’t our vibe.’”
Asked if her famous dad joined in with the jamming sessions, she replied: “No. He was asleep by ten o’clock every night.”
Eve, who is currently making waves in Netflix smash hit The Perfect Couple, made the admission to Net-a-Porter’s Porter magazine.
Despite her meteoric rise to fame as an actress, she admitted she initially wanted to follow in dad Bono’s footsteps and pursue a music career. As a child, she played the piano and the drums, and admitted: “I thought I was going to be Charli XCX.”
Eve described filming murder mystery The Perfect Couple, based on Elin Hilderbrand’s best-selling thriller, as “a blast”, adding Dakota Fanning was her “bestie” on set.
She continued: “[Dakota] is prim and proper in her interviews, but in real life she’s filthy. I wouldn’t be friends with her if she wasn’t.”
She plays free-spirited bride-to-be Amelia, joining a stellar cast including Nicole Kidman, Dakota Fanning, and her Flora and Son co-star, Jack Reynor.
The series was shot off-season in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where the cast often went axe-throwing at weekends to relieve their boredom.
Eve said: “Halfway through [the shoot], everyone started twitching [because] we needed to get out of Cape Cod. We knew each other too well by this point. So, the axe-throwing was very therapeutic.”
Eve will also feature in season two of Sharon Horgan’s acclaimed Bad Sisters.
