It has taken 22 games, but finally League of Ireland fans will be treated to a live broadcast of a European match.

TG4 have announced that they will screen on their YouTube channel Peamount United’s bid to secure a spot in the Women’s Champions League second qualifying round, when they take on ŽNK Osijek of Croatia in the round one final.

The Women’s League of Ireland champions secured their spot opposite Osijek thanks to a dramatic semi-final victory against FC Dinamo-BSUPC of Belarus on Wednesday.

Ellen Dolan opened the scoring for Peamount after seven minutes and, after the match ended 1-1 in regular time, Kerri Letmon scored an extra-time winner.

Peamount are hoping to repeat their 2011 heroics, when they advanced to face Paris St Germain. They lost that one 5-0 on aggregate.

Kick off is at 4pm Irish time and TG4’s head of sport Rónán Ó Coisdealbha said: “We’re excited to bring this pivotal match to fans across Ireland.

“It’s a privilege to support one of the teams from the Women’s Premier Division on their international campaign.

“TG4 has been a huge fan and avid supporter of the domestic league for the past number of years, and we’re proud to continue that support on the European stage.”

RTÉ and Virgin Media copped most of the flak for the failure to cover any of Shamrock Rovers’ eight games on their way to the Europa Conference League group stages.

The Hoops also entered talks with TG4 and Premier Sports ahead of their ties against Celje and PAOK.

None of St Patrick’s Athletic’s six games, Shelbourne’s four or Derry City’s two featured either, while Peamount’s clash earlier this week also wasn’t covered by Irish television.

Fans had to pay to watch those games on streaming services such as LOITV and SolidSport.
