Erik ten Hag returns to manage

Erik ten Hag is finally set to manage a game that he really can’t lose.

The beleaguered Manchester United boss has returned to Holland during the international break after agreeing to take charge of a team of former Utracht players for a testimonial for the club's veteran defender Mark van der Maarel on Sunday.

The game, to mark Van der Maarel’s 17-year spell with the Eredivisie club, will be against the current Utrecht team. So technically, Utrecht can’t be beaten!

Van der Maarel, 37, asked Ten Hag to do him a favour - and the man who Answered was at Utrecht as both a player and manager was happy to oblige after getting permission off United.

Just to make the Dutchman feel at home, Utrecht even play in red and white.

Ten Hag has returned to his homeland for a welcome break as the pressure on him grows at Old Trafford.

United have lost their last two games despite once again backing their manager heavily in the transfer market and were hammered 3-0 at home by Liverpool on Sunday.

Ten Hag has taken time out to visit his son Nigel and daughters Kelly and Indy while Nations League qualifiers are being played.

Utrecht expect a sell-out crowd of almost 24,000 at their Stadion Galgenwaard - and their former coach is guaranteed a great reception.
