The family of a Cork man who sadly passed away in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon has issued a heartfelt appeal for the return of his phone, which was lost at the scene.

At around 4pm yesterday, Kieran O'Donovan fell ill while walking in Cork city centre along MacCurtain Street. After suffering what is understood to be a cardiac arrest, Kieran went to look for help in an apartment building before he lost consciousness. A nearby resident then ran to help him and performed CPR until first responders arrived.

Following heart surgery earlier in the year, Kieran’s family changed the setting on his smartwatch, updating it to alert his wife if he was in trouble. Kieran had been wearing his smartwatch, which was close enough to his mobile phone to make a call to his wife, but was unable to speak, CorkBeo reports.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after Kieran got into difficulty. Tragically, Kieran passed away after he was rushed to Cork University Hospital by ambulance under a Garda escort.

Following a search of the apartment block, Gardaí told Kieran's family that the only items he had in his possession when they arrived at the scene were his car keys, a Tesco Clubcard and his smartwatch.

It is believed that Kieran may have lost his phone after he got into difficulty and his daughter Karen has issued an appeal to have her father’s phone returned to the family.

Karen is hoping someone may have picked up the phone, an iPhone with a blue case, intending to find the owner. The phone had ‘everything on it' including pictures of Kieran with his grandchildren.
