Two bodies found in the wreckage of the sunken Bayesian yacht have been confirmed as those of Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah.

Mike Lynch, 59, was travelling with his wife and 18-year-old daughter on the superyacht which was battered during intense storms off the coast of Palermo, Italy in the early hours of Monday. Mr Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, survived.

Now, after a frantic search, two bodies have been found - one being of the billionaire, who lived in a mansion in a 2,500 acre estate in Suffolk and was born in Ilford, east London.

The trip appeared to be something of a celebration after Mr Lynch's acquittal of fraud and conspiracy charges in a US federal trial related to Hewlett Packard’s $11 billion (£8.4 billion) takeover of his company, Autonomy Corp. Some guests included some of the people who had stood by Mr Lynch throughout the ordeal, including one of his US lawyers, Christopher Morvillo of Clifford Chance, and Mr Morvillo’s wife.

But among the survivors was Charlotte Golunski, who said she momentarily lost hold of her one-year-old daughter Sofia in the water, but then managed to hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were both pulled to safety, Italian news agency ANSA reported. The father, identified by ANSA as James Emslie, also survived. The trio were treated in hospital.

Speaking on Monday, the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch is deploying a team of four inspectors to Italy to conduct a preliminary assessment. The Foreign Commonwealth and Development office said it was “providing consular support to a number of British nationals and their families.”

The yacht, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, can accommodate 12 passengers in four double cabins, a triple and the master suite, plus crew accommodations, according to Charter World and Yacht Charters.

The vessel, which previously was named Salute when it flew under a Dutch flag, featured a sleek, minimalist interior of light wood with Japanese accents designed by the French designer Remi Tessier, according to descriptions and photos on the charter sites.

The news means there are now three people confirmed dead in the horror sinking. Another body earlier recovered at the scene of the sinking on Monday, belonged to Canadian-Antiguan national Recaldo Thomas, who was working on the Bayesian superyacht.

Gareth Williams, a friend of the chef, told the BBC : “I can talk for everyone that knew him when I say he was a well-loved, kind human being with a calm spirit.”

Another friend, Eli Fuller, told the outlet Mr Thomas was “friends with everybody”, “always positive” and “sought after” in his profession. Bayesian was moored around half a mile off the coast of Porticello when it sank at around 5am local time on Monday as the area was hit by a storm.
