A search and rescue group in Cork is appealing for information as they attempt to solve the mystery of what became of a father of three who disappeared without trace a year ago.

John Keaveney (43) from Dublin was last seen on August 21, 2023 in the vicinity of Páirc Ui Chaoimh in Cork.

Mr Keaveney had been on holiday with his family in East Cork when he experienced an epileptic episode. He was transferred by ambulance to Cork University Hospital on August 19, 2023. He was kept in overnight.

John discharged himself from hospital on August 20, 2023. He was last seen on CCTV footage at about 1.30am the following morning by the Circle K petrol station on Centre Park Road in the city.

Chris O’Donovan, Search Co Ordinator with Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery, has issued an appeal to the public as efforts continue to find out what happened to John.

He told 96FM that they hope to jog the memory of a member of the public in a bid to find out what happened to the much loved family man.

“The smallest bit of information would go an awful long way. So if anybody can remember back to that night coming across John. He is a very recognisable guy.

"We don’t know where he went after he went down below Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Nobody knows because there is no footage of him after that.

"But the smallest thing (could help). If people saw him or if there is something unusual they need to pick up the phone and make a phone call because it is something small that will break this wide open.”

John is described as being 5' 9" in height, of slim build, with brown eyes and bald..

When last seen, John was wearing a pair of navy trousers, a grey Umbro hoodie with the Irish soccer logo and white runners.

Anyone with information on John’s whereabouts is asked to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021 455 8510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
