Steve Irwin's son Robert Irwin revealed he 'got his head smashed into a tree' while catching crocodiles.

The 20-year-old conservationist and TV personality had the terrifying accident a few hours before Sunday's 2024 Logie Awards - an annual ceremony celebrating and honouring the best shows and stars in Australian television. Robert opened up about the incident while chatting to Dr Chris Brown and Sonia Kruger on the red carpet.

"I just came straight in from catching crocodiles up north," he revealed before pointing to Dr Chris and saying: "You've been there, you know what that's like." Robert didn't seem affected by the scary experience and casually went on to explain: "I just got my head smashed into a tree."

"I was on a croc's head, it was a big makeup job but I'm here I'm excited and we are pumped and I get to do it with one of my best mates, which is awesome," he said as he referred to his I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! Australia co-host Julia Morris. It comes several months after Robert celebrated the life of his late father Steve with a sweet video shared on social media.

Steve was a beloved Australian wildlife expert and TV presenter who was best known as the Crocodile Hunter. The TV star was raised in Queensland Australia and spent most of his life surrounded by various creatures, that most people are afraid of. He made several appearances on wildlife shows before fronting a number of his own animal documentaries.

The much-loved TV star led a colourful and adventurous life before his death and was a doting father to his two children. Steven tragically died in 2006 at the age of 44 after suffering an injury caused by a stingray while filming a documentary in the Great Barrier Reef.

He left behind his kids Bindi and Robert and his wife Terri. In February, Robert took to his Instagram page to share home video footage of his famous dad exploring the Irwins' Australia Zoo on a motorcycle, leaving fans emotional. He said: "Some of my fondest and earliest memories were on that bike," Robert said in the video which he called 'The Story of Dad's motorbike."

"It brings back so many memories," Robert said. "Every time I get on that bike and ride the same route around Australia Zoo he did, it means so much that this piece of machinery that he loved and used every day."
