Burnley want Manchester United ’s Hannibal Mejbri to replace Fulham -bound Sander Berge.

Fulham have agreed to pay £20million, rising to £25m, for Norway midfielder Berge, having previously targeted United midfielder Scott McTominay - but they were unable to reach an agreement. Now the Clarets are targeting Mejbri as Berge’s replacement.

Mejbri, 21, played in United’s win at Turf Moor last September and is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, having entered the final year of his contract. United would prefer a cash deal for the Tunisia midfielder, who made just six appearances during an all-fated loan spell at Sevilla.

Burnley are also signing Chelsea centre-back Bashir Humphreys, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Swansea last season.

Humphreys has had his medical at Burnley and the 21-year-old will strengthen their defensive options with Republic of Ireland international Dara O’Shea being targeted by Wolves and Brentford.

Wolves want O’Shea to replace Max Kilman, who has joined West Ham for £40million, and the Clarets want £15million for him after paying his £7million release clause at West Brom last summer. Brentford are also keen and Burnley are determined he will only leave if their asking price is met.

United, meanwhile, also remain in the hunt for Paris St Germain’s Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte. They will not pay PSG ’s £51million asking price for Ugarte and the French club may lower their demands as the end of the window looms into view.

Fulham are closing in on a deal for Manchester United target Sander Berge

Ugarte, 23, was not involved in PSG’s opening night win at Le Havre on Friday and the South American is keen to come to Old Trafford. United boss Erik ten Hag wants a midfielder to sit beside Kobbie Mainoo in the holding role and the club have been pursuing Ugarte for weeks.

United are focused on Ugarte after seeing other targets Youssouf Fofana join AC Milan and Berge move to Fulham. They could offer PSG a loan to buy deal, although it is understood they would prefer a straight cash deal.

United do not need to offload anyone to finance Ugarte’s move, although Napoli remain keen on Scotland midfielder McTominay.

However no deal is imminent despite days of talks between United and the Serie A side.
