A man is critically ill in hospital after he suffered serious head injuries in a one punch attack in Dublin.

Sources have revealed that the victim, who is in his 30s, fell and hit his head on the ground after the attack in Tallaght, County Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

We have learned that he suffered a suspected brain injury in the attack and is in a critical conditional in Tallaght Hospital.

It’s understood, however, that gardaí are hopeful the victim – who is well known in the area – will survive the attack.

“He is in a bad way, but the expectation at this stage is that he will survive,” a source said.

The source also confirmed that no weapons were used in the attack – and the victim was punched to the ground where he hit his head.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokeswoman said: “Gardaí are investigating a serious assault that occurred at Killinarden Heights, Tallaght, Dublin 24 yesterday afternoon Sunday 18th August, 2024 at around 12 midday.

“A man, aged in his 30s was removed from the scene to Tallaght University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. He remains in a serious condition.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward or who may have been in the vicinity of Killinarden Heights or the Cushlawn Estate on Sunday 18th August, 2024 from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

“Additionally, any persons with camera footage from the area at the time are encouraged to provide it to investigating Gardaí.”

Gardaí are trying to establish a motive for the assault.
