Shane Lowry holed a bunker shot from 140 yards to finish his second round in sensational style at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The Offaly man found the bottom of the cup from a fairway bunker for an eagle that saw him sign for a two-under-par 70.

It was a glorious ending to a battling day for the former Open champion as he recovered from being two over through six holes to move up the leaderboard.

His fairway bunker shot on the 18th hole at TPC Southwind was perfectly struck and only had eyes for the hole when it landed on the green.

Lowry is in a tie for 33rd place on two-under-par after two rounds and is nine shorts behind co-leaders Hideki Matsuyama and Denny McCarthy.

It was a day to forget for Rory McIlroy as he struggled to a three-over-par 73 to sit on one-over-par for the tournament.

McIlroy found the water on par five third hole and ended up racking a double-bogey in a round that contained three other bogeys.
