Kellie Harrington TV viewing figures revealed as double Olympic gold boxer backed for major RTE show
The Dubliner's Olympic Boxing final against Wenlu Yang saw Harrington make history by becoming the first Irish female athlete to secure back-to-back Olympic titles.
A huge audience of 1.3M people tuned in to watch Kellie Harrington become a double Olympic gold medallist.
The Dubliner's 60kg Olympic Boxing final from Roland Garros against Wenlu Yang saw Harrington make history by becoming the first Irish female athlete to secure back-to-back Olympic titles.
RTE has revealed the fight was watched by a peak audience of 1.371,400 on RTÉ2.

RTÉ Group Head of Sport, Declan McBennett, said: "The nation stopped and the nation watched in awe and admiration. "Kellie showed yet again, as with all the Irish medallists at these games, how sport can grip our attention and fuel our imagination. Last night's images will forever live in Irish hearts and minds and will inspire those who follow in her footsteps."
The RTÉ2 audience for the fight itself represented a share of 83% of those watching TV at the time. Additionally, there were 369,000 streams on RTÉ Player.
Meanwhile, Harrington is odds on to win RTÉ Sports Personality of the Year - as well swap her boxing gloves for dancing shoes and compete on Dancing With The Stars in the new year.
According to bookies, Ladbrokes, her odds to take the sports crown have been slashed to 1/3 by bookies Ladbrokes. Now with time on her hands as she retired from the sport, Ladbrokes are currently offering odds of 10/1 on Harrington to pick up her dancing shoes in the new year and appear on RTE’s Dancing With The Stars.
Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Kellie Harrington has done us all proud and it's nothing short of what she deserves. "We have seen money on Harrington clinching the SPOTY title, and also for the Champ to become a dancing star”.
