Met Éireann has predicted a washout weekend weather forecast with heavy showers blasting down across the country.

The national forecaster has warned that rain will pour over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, although there will be some patches of hazy sunny spells for a point today and Saturday before rain falls again, Sunday will see widespread showers.

Thankfully, Monday is set to be a bright and fresh day, a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, but rain will develop throughout the late afternoon and evening, giving way to a mainly dry night. Here is Met Éireann’s weekend forecast:

Friday

Areas of mist and drizzle will become mostly confined to eastern and southeastern coastal parts during the morning.

Much of the country will see a mix of cloud and some hazy sunny spells for a time. However, cloud will thicken across west Munster, Connacht and west Ulster through the afternoon and evening with outbreaks of rain gradually pushing in off the Atlantic.

Highest temperatures of 17C to 22C, warmest in the midlands and east with moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Cloudy with rain becoming widespread and turning heavy at times. It will be humid with temperatures not dropping below 12C to 15C in mostly light southwesterly or variable winds.

Saturday

Saturday morning will be wet with rain in most areas, heavy at times. Rain will gradually clear eastwards through the afternoon and evening with sunny spells and a few showers following from the west. Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C with light southerly breezes becoming northwesterly and freshening as rain clears.

Saturday night will be cooler and fresher with clear spells and a few showers in the west. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 11C with light to moderate westerly breezes.

It will be a cloudy and wet weekend

Sunday

After a mainly dry start, rain will develop in the west during the morning and then spread eastwards to all areas through the afternoon and evening. A cooler day with highest temperatures of 14C to 17C with light to moderate southerly winds.

Sunday night will be a wet night with widespread rain. It will gradually clear much of Munster and south Leinster overnight with scattered showers following there. Lowest temperatures of 11C to 14C with light southerly or variable winds.

Monday

Monday will be a bright, fresh day for most with sunny spells and scattered showers. However, it will remain cloudy over much of Munster with rain developing in the southwest later in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 17C to 21C with moderate west to northwest winds.

Becoming mainly dry and clear Monday night apart from some outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 11C with light northwesterly winds.
