Shelbourne forward Gavin Hodgins has been training this week with Stoke City during their pre-season camp in Cork.

The Championship side have been staying and training at Fota Island - and on Wednesday night they wrapped up their camp with a 5-0 win against League of Ireland side Cork City.

Hodgins did not feature in that game, but he did train with Steven Schumacher’s side in what the Potters boss described as a “pleasing” week’s work ahead of the new campaign.

There is also interest in the teenager from rival Championship sides, as well as clubs in League One, and a move is expected during this summer window.

Hull City and Ipswich Town have monitored the youngster in recent months.

Reflecting on their week in Cork, Schumacher said: “We’ve worked a lot on out-of-possession info, basic organisation, and learned some principles.

“We’ve worked on our fundamentals. It’s been a pleasing out-of-possession week and that can only help us moving forward.”

Elsewhere, Shamrock Rovers Under-20 prospect Ryan Kelly is being tracked by Championship side Millwall and Serie A outfit Torino.

And Shelbourne’s Charles McGee has become the latest Irish youngster to sign for Swedish side Ytterhogdals. He joins Jack O’Reilly and Darragh Dunne at the Tommy Stewart-managed club.
