Ireland weather: Hope for summ

As we head into the second week of July, much of the country is waking up to fog, overcast skies and temperatures a little on the chilly side.

Ireland has yet to enjoy an extended spell of high temperatures and sunshine this summer, and while we've all grown accustomed to the unpredictability of Irish weather during the months of June, July and August, there remains a glimmer of hope for a summer yet.

The bad news is that it won't be happening in the next few days as low pressure continues to dominate in many areas of the country.

The good news, however, is that current indications suggest conditions will take a turn for the positive towards the end of this week when high pressure is expected to arrive and bring with it some extended sunny spells and warmer temperatures.

While the coming days will consist of much of what we're used to lately - cloud, rain, wind and temperatures barely cracking 20C - the weekend should see a change for the better, according to Met Eireann.

The national forecaster has tentatively suggested that "high pressure will continue to dominate next weekend bringing a mix of cloud and sunny spells with light winds and just a few showers."

Next week, meanwhile, is currently looking very promising as between Monday, July 15, and Sunday, July 21, we should have an extended spell of drier weather as a result of sustained high pressure, with Met Eireann anticipating "lower than average precipitation is indicated countrywide. Temperatures are signalled to be around average for the time of year" during this period.

There remains uncertainty in the forecast for the last full week of July but early indications suggest that "high pressure will remain in charge of our weather."

Between Monday, 22 July, and Sunday, 28 July, Met Eireann reports that "temperatures are signalled to be above average for the time of year in conjunction with lower than average rainfall across the country."
