Rangers legend in referee rant

Rangers legend Allan McGregor tore into the quality of referees in Scotland after Saturday's Scottish Cup final loss to Celtic.

McGregor was left fuming after referee Nick Walsh opted against giving Rangers a first-half penalty for an alleged foul by Cameron Carter-Vickers on Cyriel Dessers in the penalty box. The incident forced the Rangers striker off at half-time.

Adam Idah then popped up in the final moments of the game to punish Rangers as he followed in on an effort that was pushed out by Jack Butland and fired under the Light Blues No1 to send the green and white half of Mount Florida wild. It proved the winning moment for Brendan Rodgers' troops who secured a double having already bagged the Scottish Premiership title.

It was party time for Idah and his team-mates, but the studio pundits were only getting started with their analysis. However, the row between the former Old Firm stars was already rumbling before the full-time whistle. Liam Scales had appeared to give away a free-kick as he barged Dujon Sterling off the ball. Analysing the incident at half-time, Lennon said: "Yeah, it's a clear free-kick. He has pushed him in the back and taken him out at the legs. I don't know why he hasn't given that one against Liam Scales. I think he is fortunate to get away with that."

McGregor answered: "It's mind boggling. It doesn't surprise me with the state of these referees to be fair..." Lennon attempted to defuse the rant stating: "Oh, he is on one now." Undeterred McGregor went on: "Oh yeah, I'm on one. The linesman is about 15 yards away. He has got two hands on his back, what is he looking at? It doesn't surprise me to be fair."

A heavy challenge by Carter-Vickers on Dessers was then flagged on Premier Sports. Lennon gave his take as he said: "It's a good block from O'Riley. It's a good follow up from Carter-Vickers - it's a really strong challenge, but it's clean. There is no hint of a penalty there whatsoever. It's a good reaction from Carter-Vickers, and Dessers goes over. It's not a penalty, no way."

McGregor wasn't having any of it saying: "I still think it's a big naughty..." Lennon clapped back: "There is no touch on the follow through..." McGregor continued: 'I get that. My wee pal in her room at Hampden once told me when I asked her if to endanger the opponent you need to actually touch the person, and she said no." And nodding to the yellow card Celtic captain Callum McGregor was on at the time, he went on: "He is just lucky his name is not Cameron Carter-Vickers and not Cameron Callum-McGregor or it could have been a red."
