Dublin Airport asks public to

Dublin Airport has called on the public to name a wild bird that has made the busy international airport its home.

On Thursday, the huge airport let passengers know that there was some concern about a bird that was living in Terminal One, and while it might seem like something small, getting a speedy winged critter out of a space so large is actually quite difficult.

After employing the help of the team at the airport alongside consultation with wildlife and bird experts - a process is underway which aims to get the bird safely on its way as quickly as they can.

Until the bird, a starling, is safely brought out of the hub, the crew at Dublin Airport have stressed that it will be getting enough food and water to eat and drink and that the top priority of the team is to get it to safety.

“We note the concern about the bird currently living in Terminal One at Dublin Airport,” a post on the Dublin Airport X page said.

“Helping a small (and very speedy!) bird to get out of such a vast and busy building is no easy task. But the airport team is on the case and - in consultation with wildlife and bird experts - a process is underway which will get the bird safely on its way very soon.

“In the meantime, the public can be fully assured that the bird is getting plenty to eat and drink and is healthy. The safe return of the bird to the wild is a top priority and we thank the public for leaving its rescue to the professionals.”

With the bird still flapping around as of Friday, the team at the airport have decided to put out a call to the public to name the animal, even suggesting that a prize could be up for grabs.

They added: “Should we give the bird a name? Give us your best suggestions. There could be a prize in it…”
