Hungarian Athletes Shine Among Nominees for AIPS Best of the Year

The International Sport Press Association (AIPS) has released its list of nominees for the prestigious Best of the Year awards, and Hungary is well represented, writes Magyar Nemzet. Among the 100 athletes—50 men and 50 women—and 32 teams vying for the title, three Hungarian athletes and one team have been shortlisted.
In the male category, Kristóf Milák and Kristóf Rasovszky have earned nominations. Milák, ranked 27th, achieved gold in the 100-meter butterfly and silver in the 200-meter butterfly at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Rasovszky, ranked 35th, had an exceptional year, claiming Olympic gold and a World Championship title in the 10-kilometer open water swimming event.
Michelle Gulyás, ranked 16th among the women, stands out as Hungary’s top female nominee.
Gulyás clinched the Olympic gold medal in modern pentathlon, showcasing her versatile skills across fencing, swimming, equestrian, shooting, and running.
In the team category, Hungary’s Olympic gold medal-winning men’s épée team is among the contenders. Comprising Tibor Andrásfi, Máté Koch, Dávid Nagy, and Gergely Siklósi, the team’s victory has solidified its place in Hungarian sports history.
Voting for the Best of the Year awards is open to journalists holding an AIPS card.
Votes can be cast on the AIPS website until Sunday, December 29, at 11.59 p.m.
Winners will be announced soon after the voting period ends.
