Impressionist Conor Moore has said Joe Brolly helped him how to treat online trolls.

The talented mimic said Brolly helped him realise that you have to treat the online world like it’s ‘not real’ to remember what is important.

Speaking to Carl Mullan on his Phone Truths podcast, he said: “Real life is your family and your friends and who you talk to 95% of the time, that’s real life.

"And if they think well of you - some people say they don’t care what people think but you have to care of what some people think of you - and if they think well of you… I’ve great family and friends, so you have to look at the phone like it’s not real.

“One tweet or comment can set something off but it is gone in a day or two. After a while this stuff doesn’t matter.”

Conor also recounted a fond memory of when he and his brother drove their dad back to smoking after he saw the size of the telephone landline bill they had racked up ringing girls when they were younger.

Conor told Carl: “I remember me and my brother had two girlfriends and we would ring them off the landline, back when you rang from a landline to a mobile phone it was massive money.

"And I will never forget my father… I can still see the Eircom bill. Coming in from school and he was off the cigarettes at the time, off it awhile and on the Nicorette, and I walked in and saw this smoke at the table… [mimics smoking]… and it was £200, something astronomical.

“Me and the brother looked at each other and said, ‘we’re out of here’ and bang, ran straight up the field! He paid for it anyway… but that got me in trouble.”
