October marks the Month of the Reformation, organized by the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Hungary (MEÖT).

This year’s event, themed “Be patient with me…” (Matthew 18:26), will conclude on October 31, Reformation Remembrance Day. The series began with a central opening ceremony on October 1 at the Kálvin Square Reformed Church (Budapest), with a sermon by Evangelical Bishop and MEÖT Vice-President Péter Kondor.

The highlight of the month-long celebrations is the Reformation Gala Evening on October 20 at the Uránia National Film Theater. Writer and poet Krisztián Grecsó will give a lecture on “Faith and Art,” and the Mátyás Ráth Prize will be awarded by the Protestant Journalists Association.

Other notable events include the regional women’s meeting on 5 October in Mezőberény, the Ecumenical Mission Day on October 13 in Békéscsaba (both located in south-eastern Hungary), and a Reformation service on October 27 at the Hungarian Methodist Church Center in Budapest, where Pentecostal Church President Tamás Földesi will preach.

The month will culminate on October 31 with a commemoration at the Reformation Memorial Park in Budapest.

Reformation Remembrance Day commemorates Martin Luther’s nailing of his theses to the Castle Church door in Wittenberg in 1517, sparking the Lutheran and Reformed movements.
