Blanka Vas, fourth at the Paris Olympics, clinched victory in the fifth stage of the women’s Tour de France small group sprint. Vas, who had an impressive Olympic performance, continues to excel, demonstrating her strength in the famous bicycle tournament.

The race, after stages in the Netherlands and Belgium, entered France with a 152.5 Km stage from Bastogne to Amnéville. The route featured five small climbs and 1,820 meters of ascent, making it ideal for Vas, who had placed tenth on the opening day.

A breakaway of three contestants led for much of the stage, but the peloton reeled them in within the final 20 kilometers.

Vas, representing SD Worx-Protime, worked hard for the yellow jersey. Despite being separated from the peloton on a climb, she rejoined and surged ahead in the final stretch. A crash six kilometers from the finish disrupted the peloton, with Vollering falling behind and continuing in pain. Kata Vas, aided by her teammates and her strategic awareness, outpaced the remaining riders for the win.

I am thrilled! I did not expect this as I felt out of shape during the stage,” Vas said, reflecting on her win.

“My radio was not working, so I did not know about the crash. I’m happy, but I have mixed feelings about Demi losing the yellow jersey.”

Her stage win adds to her impressive record, including a Giro d’Italia stage win and a stint in the Vuelta. The Tour de France continues with a 159.2km stage on Friday and concludes on Alpe d’Huez on Sunday, featuring eight stages over seven days, including a short field stage and a 6.3km time trial.
