President Calls on Sziget Fest

Festival season is in full swing, and Budapest is no exception: one of Europe’s biggest festivals kicked off on August 7, making the city a popular destination for foreign youth with the festival’s world star headliners.

While the Hungarian capital, home to the Sziget festival, is a beautiful destination in its own right, there are plenty of gems to discover outside the city in the country.

Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, is also encouraging everyone to explore other parts of the country in his latest post on X. „Right now, the hotspot for festivalgoers is Budapest, but I encourage everyone to visit several cities in our country and explore our amazing, unique regions – and to promote our positive reputation far and wide across the globe,” writes the President.

For the sake of completeness, we have selected a few places that are not to be missed when visiting Hungary:

One of the must-see destinations is Lake Balaton, or as the Hungarians call it, the “Hungarian sea.”

However, the lakeside is not just for swimming, as the hilly, mountainous landscapes of the northern side, for instance, can also be a perfect hiking destination.

Of course, there are plenty of other beautiful destinations to choose from outside the Balaton region, be it for sightseeing, hiking or just passive vacation.
