Men’s K-4 500 m

The team of Bence Nádas, Kolos Csizmadia, István Kuli, Sándor Tótka started the day and finished second behind the Serbian boat, thus advancing to Thursday’s semi-finals. “Technically the team was not really together. We were blinded by the sun, we could not see each other’s paddles (…) and that alone made it very difficult to kayak together. We are happy because we did it, fourth best time overall,” Kolos Csizmadia noted.

Our defending champion boat arrived in Paris with the team of Noémi Pupp, Sára Fojt, Tamara Csipes, Alida Dóra Gazsó. At the halfway mark, our team was in fourth place behind the Germans, Chinese and Australians, but the race went well and the team finished in second place.

The result also means that they qualified for Thursday’s final.

“It was very good. Our preparation was a bit hectic, but we talked to the girls that if we can be there in our heads and do what we can do, we can surprise ourselves,” stressed Tamara Csipes.

In the heats, the pair of Balázs Adolf and Jonatán Hajdu were sixth at 250 m, but ended up fourth. In the quarterfinals a finish photo had to decide the outcome: the Hungarian boat finished in second place. Now, they can prepare for the semi-finals.

The duo of Ágnes Kiss and Bianka Nagy paddled in third place at the halfway mark, eventually finishing third in their heat and had to compete in the quarterfinals. There, however, they finished in first place and qualified for the semi-finals.

The boat of Bence Nádas, Sándor Tótka finished second behind the German boat and qualified for the semi-finals. Tótka was Olympic champion in the K-1 200m in Tokyo, but will not compete in the individual event in Paris. “I thought it would be a more pleasant course, the water was soft, the technical things are much better in this kind of conditions, you have to row much more in unison,” Tótka stated. “As for the pair, this was my first time on the water with Bence. I had a good time, (…) now it is a big rest and we will continue on Thursday.”

The pair of Bálint Kopasz and Ádám Varga also competed in the event, they finished second behind the Australians, and will continue in the semi-finals.

The duo of Tamara Csipes, Dóra Alida Gazsó finished third in the heats and had to compete in the quarterfinals. The pair of Noémi Pupp and Sára Fojt also finished third, however in the quarterfinals both Hungarian teams qualified for the semi-finals.
