Tachiaos: Requested intervention of the Prosecutor for the Thessaloniki metro - Hooligans threaten incidents at the opening
Tachiaos: Requested interventi

The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Nikos Tachiaos, passed through the entrance of the Thessaloniki Courthouse shortly after 12.30.

Nikos Tachiaos, leaving the Courthouse, revealed to reporters that he went to the Prosecutor to request his intervention, as yesterday at noon he was informed by a major player of a Thessaloniki football company that thousands of hooligans are preparing to spoil the opening of the Thessaloniki metro next Saturday.

“Thousands of people are gathered, they will break everything at the opening, which the Prime Minister will also be present at.”

The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport said that the major player told him specifically: “Thousands of people are gathered, they are preparing to spoil what you are preparing, they will break everything the day after tomorrow at the opening, which Mitsotakis will also be present at.” And he added that he then asked him to convey this message to Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

As Mr. Tachiaos himself later told reporters, after the first phone call, a second one followed, which confirmed the first. “This is not a message that is conveyed to the Prime Minister, it is a message that is conveyed to the Justice Department,” he stressed.

“I asked the Justice Department to investigate the possibility of committing criminal acts the day after tomorrow when the metro opens and it is a very important event for the city,” he noted.

Nikos Tachiaos: The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is neither threatened nor blackmailed
He clarified that: “The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is neither threatened, nor blackmailed nor does it negotiate with hooliganism, directed hooliganism.

Ιn Thessaloniki, these kinds of approaches are unacceptable. Thessaloniki is a city that has recently mourned its people, victims of blind fandom and hooliganism, which we all clearly know is directed in some cases.”

He then recalled the case of Alkis Kampanos and Thessaloniki police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, both of whom fell victim to blind hooliganism.

“No one has the right to spoil the city’s great celebration. The day after tomorrow, Thessaloniki is celebrating, Thessaloniki is turning a page, it is moving away from the monothematic discussion around the metro and will not fall into the monothematic discussion around a fandom that does not interest many people,” he concluded.
