Faliro Delta Park set for construction after securing funds
The European Commission has approved funding for the creation of the Faliro Delta Park along the Athenian Riviera in the coastal suburb of Faliro, the Attica Region authority announced this week.
European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira approved the inclusion of the plan in the Commission’s New European Bauhaus (NEB) policy and funding initiative which fosters sustainable solutions that will help transform the built environment under the green transition drive. Plans also include the planting of 2,900 trees.
Commenting on the news, Attica Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias said the Faliro Delta Park will be the largest urban regeneration project to be implemented by the Attica Region.
Also commenting on the decision, Ferreira said the metropolitan park will evolve into an important landmark for Attica, “connecting people of all ages, who will have free access to a multitude of sports, educational and creative activities”.
“The park,” she said, “adopts the principles of the new European Bauhaus, serving as the ideal example of how urban renewals can be designed in terms of sustainability, high aesthetics and inclusion”.
The project will be carried out through a public-private partnership and awarded via commission to a global operator who will oversee commercial uses, maintenance and operations for a designated period of time.
