While sailing in the Gulf of Aden and providing protection to a merchant ship, the frigate opened fire on 4 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in accordance with applicable Rules of Engagement. Two of the threats were neutralized, one by fire from the 127 mm Mk45 Mk2 cannon and the second by the frigate's equipped anti-drone system. The action lasted about 20 minutes, from 03.10 to 03.30 approximately, Greek time.
This specific action marked the first operational use of the anti-drone system, which, was developed by EAB and installed in the warship before departure for the mission. The first action, recorded in the system registry, was effective, leaving very positive impressions to confirm its capabilities and performance. The system succeeded in incapacitating the target, which was deprived of control by the ground control station, thus recording the first "soft kill" success of the EAB system.
The merchant vessel accompanied by the Greek frigate was a Liberian-flagged container ship.
