The warning was issued for western parts of North Ostrobothnia, South Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia, Kanta-Häme, Päijät-Häme, Pirkanmaa and Satakunta, as well as Southwest Finland and Uusimaa. In Ostrobothnia and South Ostrobothnia, the flooding could cause damage to buildings.
Underlying the warning is a rise in temperature forecast to take place this week. The Flood Centre pointed out that the warmer weather will melt the snow cover south of the line between Oulu, North Ostrobothnia, and Joensuu, North Karelia.
The melting of snow will coincide with rains that are expected to spread across the country between Sunday and Monday. In southern and central parts of the country, the precipitation will first take the form of snow or sleet but quickly turn to water, according to the latest forecast from Foreca.
In western parts of the country, the rains are forecast to continue until Tuesday. Satakunta and South Ostrobothnia have duly been issued warnings of heavy rains for the period between this evening and tomorrow afternoon. The Flood Centre highlighted that some 30 millimetres of rain is forecast to fall in the two provinces on Monday, with local accumulations as high as 50 millimetres also possible.
