The Central Statistical Office (KSH) is set to release new pilot statistics on Friday, April 19, aimed at monitoring and comparing fuel prices across the region.

These pilot fuel price statistics will be derived from Eurostat’s Weekly Oil Bulletin, enabling KSH to calculate regional average prices for 95-grade petrol and diesel, as announced on Wednesday. This initiative follows the launch of a new online platform dedicated to publishing experimental statistics based on innovative methodological procedures, and alternative data sources.

The pilot statistics are intended to address emerging data needs, bridge existing knowledge gaps, and offer robust support to policymakers, economic actors, scientists, and society at large.

KSH anticipates further refinement of these pilot fuel price statistics in the future to enhance speed, efficiency, and innovation.

The Central Statistical Office’s statutory duty is to provide comprehensive insights into the state and processes of the economy, society, and the environment through statistical data. With a commitment to transparency and objectivity, KSH aims to meet evolving user needs by delivering reliable and comparable statistical data on both international and domestic fronts, serving as an independent point of reference.

Minister for National Economy, Márton Nagy, convened a meeting  earlier with petroleum industry reps due to high fuel prices in Hungary. Prices are exceeding regional averages, prompting government scrutiny. As a result of the meeting, the public system to monitor prices described above was established. Recent price fluctuations may reflect government pressure.
