Attractive Salary and Benefits

Randstad’s latest survey reveals that attractive wages and benefits packages will remain the top priority for Hungarian employees in 2024, writes Világgazdaság. Only after salary comes a pleasant workplace atmosphere and environment, and the relationship with colleagues and managers. The research confirmed that IT is still the most attractive sector in Hungary, and most people would go to Austria to work if they were to work abroad.

LEGO was the most attractive employer in Hungary this year, ahead of BT (British Telecommunications) and Mercedes-Benz. The best known employer was Aldi.

In 2008, the LEGO Group established its Hungarian manufacturing subsidiary, LEGO Manufacturing in Nyíregyháza (northeastern Hungary), where it produces LEGO and Duplo toys with around 3,200 employees.

In 2014, the new factory complex of more than 120,000 square meters was inaugurated and has been continuously developed since then.

Randstad’s latest survey shows that in terms of job choice preferences,

attractive salary and benefits packages will remain the top priority for Hungarian workers in 2024.

These are followed by a pleasant workplace atmosphere and environment, and the relationship with colleagues and managers. Then come preferences such as the financial stability of the employer, a long-term contract, the possibility of redundancy (or rather the lack of), and work-life balance.

The study shows that contrary to European expectations, the reputation of a company is not as important, and much less attention is paid to job content, interest, or the general perception of the employer.

Looking at the different gender criteria, it is interesting to note that convenient accessibility of the workplace and the possibility of home office are more important for women than for men, and equal treatment is also a priority for the former.

Erste also recently conducted a survey on working from home and found that 65% of people under 36 consider it essential to have a home office, compared with 59% of older people.

IT remains the most attractive sector in Hungary, despite its slump in recent years. BSS (business services sector) is in second place, while life sciences and automotive companies are in third place on the imaginary podium.

The Equilibrium Institute, in cooperation with the National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers (VOSZ), has developed a package of proposals to facilitate the repatriation of Hungarians working abroad. The respondents made it clear that the strongest motivation to move home would be if the labor market environment in Hungary could provide nearly two-thirds of their income – in which case a significant number of them would consider returning to Hungary. Five out of six respondents say that they are unlikely to return home in the very near future, and around 15-17% plan or could imagine moving back to Hungary in the next five to ten years.

Not surprisingly, the three most attractive destinations for those leaving Hungary are:

  • Austria
  • Germany
  • the United Kingdom.

In addition, in December, the Equilibrium Institute also looked at how much money people earn to live a modest, average, or carefree life. According to those surveyed at the end of last year, the average Hungarian needed

  • HUF 250,000 (EUR 640) a month to make a modest living
  • HUF 350,000 (EUR 896) net per month for an average standard of living
  • while HUF 600,000 (EUR 1536) a month was needed to live a life considered carefree.
