Police were on Thursday investigating a case of attempted murder after an incident involving shots fired in Kornos, Larnaca, resulting in the serious injury of one person.

The incident happened around 2pm in an outdoor area in Kornos.

The person shot was said to be in a critical condition.

In a statement, the police said that a man aged 30 met with a number of individuals – as yet unknown – at a location in Kornos, having arranged the meeting over the phone.

They were supposed to discuss the sale of a car.

On his arrival at the scene, the 30-year-old was approached by a vehicle, out of which emerged four men, one of whom carried a handgun.

The man started up his car to get away, and in doing so he collided with the other vehicle.

While driving off, multiple shots were fired at him.

Despite his serious injury, the man managed to reach a private clinic in Limassol.

Doctors there said he had sustained injuries to his arm and his right shoulder blade.

Larnaca CID is investigating.
