Police on Wednesday are continuing their investigation into involving a brawl at a minors’ housing facility in Limassol.
Police are interrogating eight young offenders from the centre in Zakaki, for offenses including conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, rioting, assault with actual bodily harm, malicious damage, stabbing, and breach of peace.
The incident occurred on Tuesday and appears to have been a targeted attack against two women.
According the police, the incidents were preceded by a visit from an NGO that deals with migration issues. Members of the organisation had visited the shelter to speak to residents.
After they left six minors and two adult residents began throwing stones, and wooden and other objects at a nearby house, causing damage to a car and injuring a female member of the public on the head.
Neighbors rushed to help return the residents to the structure and a scuffle ensued, resulting in the injury of one minor resident, and damages.
The injured woman and the minor were taken to Limassol general hospital, where they were administered first aid and discharged.
The eight young men were interrogated and charged in writing for the offenses they committed, and they were subsequently transferred to other accommodation facilities.
The Limassol CID is continuing investigations.
