A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of having stolen parts from substations, the police announced on Saturday.
The thefts had been reported on Friday by an employee of the electricity authority (EAC), who said a number of parts were missing from three substations near the Nicosia district village of Yeri.
The police immediately commenced an investigation and found evidence against the man. They then located him at around 11pm, driving a car which had been reported stolen earlier that day.
He was initially arrested on suspicion of having stolen the car, and was then subsequently arrested for the theft of the parts from the substations.
The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
