The second body in a Limassol double murder investigation was identified on Friday, following the discovery of two victims in a burning car at the end of July.

Police revealed that the second victim, whose identity had remained unknown for a week, was 38-year-old David Chmelar from Slovakia. The two men were murdered before the car was set ablaze.

Two suspects, aged 19 and 23, have been arrested in connection with the murders and are currently under an eight-day remand. The vehicle, a 1992-1998 Opel Astra, was found on a dirt road between Pareklissia and Kelaki in the Limassol district.

The first victim, 39-year-old Andreas Kouzoupis from the village of Arakapas, was identified through DNA testing after police followed a lead concerning a missing person.

Limassol CID is leading the investigation, with authorities currently gathering and analysing CCTV footage from the area to piece together the victims’ final movements.

Last week, Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis and police chief Stelios Papatheodorou were briefed on the developments at Limassol’s central police station.

Police spokesman Christos Andreou noted that officers had been evaluating information regarding a missing individual who had not returned home and might be one of the victims.

“Investigations are underway to see if any of the two bodies is linked to this missing person. We hope there will be a result over their identity,” Andreou said.
