Korean Film Festival: Register

The general public has a unique opportunity to participate in a high-level discussion on Korean cinema and the European film market at Palace Cinema in Brussels on 28 September.

Scheduled during the 12th edition of the Korean Film Festival Belgium (26 September to 3 October), Forum: Originals & RE-Imagined Films is a free event that starts at 17.30.

The first session of the forum consists of a panel discussion with a EU film market analyst, a film streaming platform operator, a professor of language and cultural studies and an analyst from the Korean Film Council.

For the second session, world-renowned Korean film director and writer Kim Jee-woon (pictured, main image) will lead a masterclass, in which he focuses on his film Illang: The Wolf Brigade, an adaptation of an animated film. Kim will share his production methods and experiences in adapting original works into films. Among his notable titles are Cobweb (opening the film festival on 26 September; pictured), Untact, The Age of Shadows and The Last Stand.

The special forum explores the fluid movement between genres and the recreated works emerging in the European and Korean film industries, while highlighting the Asian country’s pioneering role in this field, says the Korean Culture Center.

“There is a saying that all arts are interconnected. Philosophy, music, painting, and architecture coexist within the context of their times. However, contemporary audiovisual art transcends mere inspiration from other genres, instead recreating them into new content. This process is not merely a ‘transformation’ of form and shape, but a true ‘creation’,” it adds.

The forum is followed by a free reception. Registration for the event here.
