Comedian PJ Gallagher gives honest reason why he hates Christmas - and why he wants to work on Christmas Day
Comedian PJ Gallagher has revealed he hates Christmas so much, he has decided to present his Radio Nova Show on Christmas Day.
PJ and his partner Kelly Doolin welcomed twins in August 2023. But he said spending Christmas morning with his twins and partner is the least thing he’d like to do, as he doesn’t like celebrating the festive day.
He said: “It’s the one day of the year you have to meet everyone you’ve been avoiding for 364 other days of the year. You’re buying presents for people you’d rather avoid and the responsibility of it.

“Everyone’s got a party. I don’t want to go to your smelly parties. Everyone’s got a party. You’ve to play stupid games like Kris Kindle and Secret Santa. It stinks of organised fun.”
And he said becoming a father hasn’t changed his feelings at all about Christmas.
“I don’t think so. If anything, it is going to be worse. I just see it for what it is,” he said.
PJ has instead decided to work on Christmas Day and present Morning Glory on Radio Nova, without his co-star Jim McCabe by his side. He said Kelly will be delighted to get him out of the house for a few hours.
“She’s delighted because everyone agrees that the more out of the house I am, the easier life is, so I think she thinks to herself she’ll get some happy family moments for the three hours I’m working.”
Jim said he is looking forward to putting his feet up on Christmas Day and isn’t too worried about PJ burning down the building. He told us: “In a weird sort of way, this works well for me because PJ deciding to do this, do the show live, takes away all the need to do pre-recorded bits and features and all that sort of stuff. So I’m having a full feet up moment.
“People are worried that it will all go horribly wrong, and he’ll burn the place down to the ground, that is a very real possibility, but the most likely thing is, I think he’ll be fine.
“I think the most likely thing that will happen is when the rest of us go back to use the equipment, we’ll find it doesn’t work quite as well because there’s strange bits of mince pie and selection box stuck in between faders and all sorts of business.
“Christmas for me, I know it is all about giving but for me it is all about taking and I am taking the opportunity to for the first time ever not do any work and leave the man who used to look at me and abuse me while I did work to do it all,” he added.
Listen in to Morning Glory with PJ Gallagher on Christmas Day from 6am on Radio Nova.
