Man rushed to hospital after impaling leg on railing in building site accident in Limerick


A man was recovering in hospital Wednesday after he was impaled on a railing in Limerick city centre.



It’s understood that the man was working up a ladder on a building site at development of apartments when he fell and landed on the railing yesterday, Tuesday November 12.



The man sustained a serious injury to one of his legs.

Firefighters attached to Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue Service freed the man from the railing.



A small crane was used to alleviate the pressure while the man was being freed.



The man was transported by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.



"Gardaí and Emergency services were alerted to an incident of medical emergency in Limerick city centre at approximately 12pm, Tuesday, 12th November 2024, and as An Garda Síochána is not the leading agency in this incident no further information is available," a spokesman for An Garda Siochana said.



The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was contacted for comment.



A HSA spokeswoman replied: "The HSA are aware of this incident and are making the relevant enquiries at this time."
