Reason Prince Harry set to 'spend more time in UK' exposed amid Donald Trump hostility

Prince Harry is set to "spend more time in the UK in the years to come" because of his spat with Donald Trump and his family, an insider has claimed.

Harry and Meghan Markle were branded "spoiled apples" by Mr Trump's son Eric in the summer after his father waded into Harry's US visa row. Mr Trump, 78, had said the Duke of Sussex could face deportation over previous admissions about his drug use. Fears this will come to fruition have grown since Republican Mr Trump won a landslide US election this week.

Prince Harry is therefore likely to want to spend more time with his family in the UK, it is understood. He and Meghan bought a home on the coast of Portugal this year, thought to be part of the couple's lengthy plan to extend olive branches across the Atlantic.

But it may be the case that the couple and their two children - Prince Archie, five, and three-year-old Princess Lilibet - have to initially reside in the Portugal pad if Mr Trump indeed decides to book them out of the US. Harry's plight is not helped by his admission in his memoirs Spare that he took drugs in the US, a confession critics this week called "extremely foolish".

An insider told the Daily Mail: "We can expect to see more of Harry back in Britain in years to come." This analysis is despite Harry and Meghan being evicted from Windsor’s Frogmore Cottage by King Charles early last year.

Harry's stories in Spare about taking magic mushrooms at a party in Hollywood, Los Angeles and marijuana on other occasions have sparked controversy. Speaking in a scathing interview with GB News in the summer, Eric said: "You can happily have those two [Meghan and Harry], we might not want them anymore, it feels like they’re on an island of their own.

"You can have spoiled apples in every orchard. The institution of the Royal Family is beautiful and is admired by many Americans. That should be protected."

Donald Trump had previously suggested that Harry – who has lived in California since 2020 – would not get "special privileges" and indeed may be deported if he is found to have falsified information on his Visa form.

While living in Toronto during the filming of legal drama Suits, Meghan declared she might prefer to stay in Canada rather than return to her American homeland with Trump as President.

Someone who worked for the royals while the couple were still part of The Firm said in August: "It seems quite clear that the Sussexes are desperate to start healing the rift [with the Royal Family]."
