Leona Maguire gets her wish as KPMG Women's Irish Open moves to a better date

Leona Maguire's wish has been granted as the KPMG Women's Irish Open is moving to an earlier date in 2025.

The tournament will remain at the Maynooth venue Carton House, Fairmont after a record-breaking 37,000 spectators attended this year's Ladies European Tour event at the end of August and start of September.

There is also an increased prize fund of €450,000 - up from €400,000 this year - which makes it the third highest on the LET outside of the Majors and the Aramco Team Series events.

Maguire had called for an earlier date for the Irish Open during this year's event. "The scheduling has been a little bit of an issue and I’d like to see it still in better dates so that we could get more of a world-class field," she said.

"But bit by bit I feel like there’s been progress made every year, strength of field… you’d like to see the purse go up a little bit as well and that would again attract more of a world-class field."

The Cavan star's influence has helped secure a more attractive spot on the LET calendar. It will take place from June 30 to July 6 on the O'Meara course, which should attract a number of the world's top players - a major takes place the following week, the Amundi Evian Championship in France.

“We are thrilled to see the continued success of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open as it returns to Carton House for 2025,” said Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly.

“It was a huge boost when this fixture returned after a ten-year absence in 2022 and it has grown, with another special event earlier this year. It’s fantastic to hear the tournament is receiving further backing in 2025 and with its new place in the calendar it will look to break more records.”

Early bird tickets are already on sale via the tournament website, with U16s getting in for free. Visit www.kpmgwomensirishopen.ie for more details.
