Phillip Schofield makes return to Twitter after three years but fans aren't happy

As his comeback TV show airs on Channel 5, Phillip Schofield made a return to Twitter after three years - but his comeback has been slammed by viewers.

The 62-year-old former presenter of This Morning, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce the release of Cast Away. In his new show, Phillip is seen alone on a Madagascan island thousands of miles away from home, as he survives a series of challenges, while reflecting on his controversial exit from the ITV show.

The programme attempts to repair his shattered reputation after it emerged that he had engaged in an affair with a younger employee while on the daytime TV show. Posting a picture of himself on the show, looking dishevelled, he captioned the post: "Brief return to X I’m so proud of these shows. Cast Away streaming now on My5."

But his announcement was met with backlash by social media users of X. One person said: "Whoever advised you to attempt a gentle comeback should be sacked." Another user wrote: "You’ve earned more money in your career than most of us will in our lifetimes and with that comes responsibilities, which you abused. There’s no coming back from that."

Meanwhile a third person added: "So sad to see that you're incredibly fame hungry and you want to be back in the spotlight again. Which you don't deserve." And another told him he "can leave again and close the door on your way out." But it looks as though he still has a semblance of a loyal following as one person penned: "I loved it watched every night, you did really well don't think I would have coped alone!"

Another said: "Ignore the haters Philip everyone makes mistakes in life just not everyone has to have the world on their back when they do! Wishing you and your family a peaceful life." And a third jumped on board and said: "So happy to see you Phil, I hope you come back permanently."

In a separate post, he is seen in a video clip reuniting with his beloved dog Alfie. He captioned the post: "After 3 weeks away … Alfie’s welcome. Cast Away available to stream on My5." A number of bombshells were dropped while he was on the show, one of which was that he was sacked due to the negative publicity generated by the paedophile crimes of his brother - and not his affair.

He told viewers: "I came clean about my affair. What people don’t realise is I wasn’t fired from This Morning when I admitted lying… it was before, because of someone I used to call brother." In one scene, he is seen breaking down in tears as he opened up about the scandal. But it seems it was too much too soon for some viewers.

After watching the show, one person said: "Not watching a second of the sickeningly desperate attempt for #PhillipSchofield to garner sympathy for being a wrong 'un. Imagine doing what he did and essentially having a video diary of your defence aired on TV. That his narcissism is being pandered to is grim." A second person fumed: "Can’t believe a TV channel has given this guy a platform again."
