Robert De Niro jumps off boat to celebrate 81st birthday with daredevil stunt

Robert De Niro may be one year older, but he seems to be feeling as youthful as ever as he jumped off a boat to celebrate.

The acting icon turned 81 years old on Saturday - ringing in another year while surrounded by his family and loved ones. Taking to Instagram, the Oscar-winning star actor's daughter, Drena De Niro, 56, paid tribute to him by sharing a collection of photographs and videos from over the year.

The cover image showed Robert sporting a bright pair of Vilebrequin swim shorts and leaping from a yacht into an ocean. A video clip showed his family watching on in stunned amazement as he jumped from another spot into the water - leaping from a height of over 30 feet.

Sharing the cache of images and footage, Drena wrote in an accompanying caption, "Happy 81st Bday to my Dad and #1 ride or die .. Love you with all my #BobbyD forever." She added a string of heart and sparkle emojis as well as a crown emoji.

Further snaps showed Robert with young members of his family. The Godfather star has seven children, with a 47-year-old son named Raphael who he shares with ex-wife Diahnne Abbott. He also adopted her daughter, Drena - and the couple, who married in 1976, divorced in 1988.

He welcomed twins Julian and Aaron when he was in a relationship with model Toukie Smith between 1988 and 1996. He welcomed his son, Elliot, and daughter Helen, during his marriage to actress Grace Hightower which lasted from 1998 until 2018.

Robert most recently became a father again in April 2023, sharing his daughter Gia, with girlfriend Tiffany Chen and making him a dad at the age of 79. Speaking of his love of being an older parent Robert told Sky News in January this year: "It feels great because everything I’m consumed with or worried about or this or that just goes away when I look at her."

Becoming emotional, he continued: “That in itself is wondrous. But she has a very sweet kind of way of looking at you and just taking you in. My other daughter, Helen, had that too. They just look at you and take it in. I don’t know where it’s going to go for her later when she’s older. But she’s thinking and she’s observing everything and watching and it’s really interesting.”

He added: “I’m an 80-year-old dad and it’s great. I want to be around for as long as I can to enjoy it and enjoy her.”
