Three men arrested in investigation into brutal murder of Josip Strok

Three men have been arrested in an investigation into the murder of Josip Strok, a Croatian native who was the victim of a brutal attack in Dublin.

Gardaí investigating the murder of Josip Strok and a serious assault on a man in Clondalkin on March 30 arrested three men on Thursday morning.

They were arrested by Gardaí attached to the Clondalkin District and GNBCI and all three are currently detained at Garda Stations in the DMR under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Strok, 31, passed away earlier this month as a result of catastrophic head injuries suffered after he was attacked while he walked to a house in Clondalkin from a bus on March 30 along with his friend, David Druzinec, 28.

Mr Druzinec later spoke out about the attack, which occurred in the Grange View Way area of Clondalkin shortly after 10pm on Saturday, March 30.

On the night, the pals met up to spend Easter together and had food and bought a couple of beers in an off-licence before heading back to David’s apartment in Clondalkin.

David said when they left the off-licence they were both talking in Croatian.

He said a gang started “throwing insults and shouted at us ‘You speak English, you are in Ireland, you are not at home, you have no respect for our country. This is Ireland...' and things like that," he told Telegram newspaper in Croatia.

David said the attack was unexpected, because they neither saw nor heard it.

"They hit me first with something, I don't know if it was a bar or a bat, I asked the police the details they saw on the video, which they allegedly have.

"Basically, I fell when they started on Josip. After some time, I managed to get up and wanted to help him, but they started beating me again, even harder," said David, who said that's all he remembers.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said in a statement: “Gardaí investigating the murder of Josip Strok and a serious assault on a man which occurred in Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on 30th March 2024, have arrested three men.

“The men were arrested this morning Thursday, 25th April 2024, by Gardaí attached to the Clondalkin District and GNBCI. All three are currently detained at Garda Stations in the DMR under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have information on this incident to contact them at Clondalkin Garda Station on 01 666 7600 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.”
