ITV Britain's Got Talent fans complain minutes into show over 'spontaneous' audition

Britain’s Got Talent fans launched into complaints within minutes of the latest episode as they fumed over a 'spontaneous' audition.

The long-running ITV talent show returned for another episode on Saturday night as Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli continued their search for the next big star in the UK. Hosts Ant and Dec were along for the ride - and the first act of the night was 29-year-old freestyle rapper, Danny Platinum.

The performer introduced himself, explaining that he is from Yorkshire and works mainly as a content creator. However, making music and rapping is Danny’s true dream - and he appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in the hope of scooping the crown and landing some kind of performance deal.

First he had to impress the four judges - as well as the live studio audience. And Danny had something of a trick up his sleeve to try to draw extra attention. He opted to attempt something other rap performers had not tried on the show before. The freestyle rapper turned to the judges and then began stepping off the stage towards them.

He then walked straight past the judging panel and down an aisle. He then exited the Palladium Theatre in London where the scene was filmed and went out to the street outside. Once outside, he broke into a rap performance that consisted mainly of the phrase “BGT Baby!” - while a large crowd was formed behind Britain’s Got Talent branded barriers.

The audience and judges inside the venue were able to watch everything as a camera crew was set up outside to capture Danny’s performance and broadcast it on a giant screen inside the theatre. The performance was a hit with those inside the Palladium - but fans watching at home were less impressed.

Many noted that the rap performance had to have been pre-planned as a camera crew was waiting outside to capture the performance. And some suggested the outdoor scenes could have been completely pre-recorded. As a result, many took to X to slam the performance and to accuse BGT producers of clearly orchestrating the ‘spontaneous’ moment.

One fan raged online: “Ok this rapper from Huddersfield seems to be good but the going outside to perform is a little cheesy and obviously preplanned.” Another said they had switched off, writing: “#BGT is so fake I couldn’t even make it past first audition.”

One cynical fan wrote: "Can we see the bit where he was stood at the entrance while the VT played #BGT." And another wrote: "Handpicked Produced Setup within an inch of its life #BGT." With a further fan writing: "This Danny Platinum guy is definitely a #BGT plant."

Amanda was mocked by many as she claimed to be wowed by the vocabulary that Danny unleashed in his rap. One mocking viewer posted on X: “'You must have so many words in your head' 95% of them were 'BGT' or 'Baby' though. #BGT."

And others hated on Danny’s performance - with one writing: "Don't get me wrong, he is not the worst freestyler in the world. However it was a bit repetitive. #BGT #BritainsGotTalent."

Another typing: "Others were less forgiving, however, with one complaining: "Another mediocre act that the judges love but would probably not even get plays on Spotify when it's free. #BGT." And another raged: "Enough enough please stop #BGT." He sailed through to the next round, however, gaining ‘yeses’ from all four judges.
