The four Hungarian candidates of the Hungarian to Orbit (Hunor) program – Gyula Cserényi, Tibor Kapu, Ádám Schlégl, and András Szakály – were interviewed on Sunday afternoon on Kossuth Radio, Magyar Nemzet reported.

In the third phase of the training, the candidates will acquire specialized knowledge about the international space station, and will also be involved in research and development work.

During the first two periods, the candidates learned about the history of space exploration, the activities of the space agencies and the mission, followed by the disciplines required for the actual mission (cosmology, geology, rocket physics, physiology).

They also obtained their PPL (Private Pilot License) and performed aerobatic exercises. As part of the physical training, they participate in swimming drills and their diet is monitored by a dietician.

Soon the crew will travel to the United States, where further training will take place.

One of the most important will be centrifugal training, simulating the exact forces a person will be subjected to during lift-off. They will also be familiarized with the space station’s modules and instruments using a life-size model, and trained to provide first aid in a microgravity environment.

The scientific experiments planned for the 30-day stay abroad will soon begin. Some of these have recently closed their tenders, so the selection and decision on exactly what will be included in the program is still under discussion.
