For many foreigners tracing their Slovak heritage, finding the burial sites of their ancestors is a deeply personal journey. To aid in this quest, we have provided maps of the districts we visited, with every cemetery carefully marked. (We will gradually expand the list of maps.)

Slovakia's history is woven through various empires and states. From 1867 to 1918, it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Afterward, with the exception of the Nazi-aligned Slovak state during the tumultuous years of 1939 to 1945, the region remained within Czechoslovakia until 1992. These shifts mean that the names of Slovak municipalities have changed over time.
