The Slovak government has clarified the visa conditions applying to prospective foreign employees from non-EU countries (sometime referred to as 'third countries'). From now on, applicants for work visas must, when applying for jobs where no proof of education is required, attach a work contract or, in the case of skilled professions, also proof of education, the TASR newswire reported, citing the Government Office.

At a recent meeting, the government clarified the scope of documents required for individual occupations with an amendment to the regulation.

"It is proposed to specify the range of documents that a third-country national attaches to an application for a national visa in accordance with the subject and purpose of this government regulation," stated the Labour, Social Affairs and Family Ministry in the explanatory report accompanying the material.

A work contract will be required for jobs that do not require proof of an attained level of education or professional qualification. This includes occupations such as cleaners, chambermaids and assistant workers.

A work contract and a copy of the education document required for the job or a copy of the professional qualification document necessary for the job will now be required. This obligation applies, for example, to specialists in plant production, specialists in animal production, poultry processors, bakers, dairy processors and tractor drivers.
