New zipline opened near a cave in the treetops
The construction became more expensive and extended.
Start at the observation tower, the end at the ruins of the Pauline monastery. The second zipline in the Košice region promises half a kilometre of adrenaline riding in the air.
A new zipline opened in the Gombasek area near the Gombasecká cave in southern Slovakia. You will fly over the camping area.
Through the treetops
The official operation of the zipline starts in May. It will open daily, except Monday. Gábor Nászaly from the For the Development of Gombasek civic association, which is behind the zipline project, says that the ride will be a real adrenaline experience.
"The rope goes between the trees, so you go through the crowns of the trees,” he says. “In addition, our zipline is the longest in Slovakia, at half a kilometre."
Its creation was supported by the Košice self-governing region with the sum of 200,000 euros from the Terra Incognita program. The grant was received by For the Development of Gombasek. The total costs came to about 300,000 euros.
The association announced the opening of the zipline already last August. The zipline is finally launching about nine months later. Its construction became more expensive and extended.
Smaller zipline
The zipline was actually supposed to be larger, with a length of up to 700 metres and with three stations - boarding, exiting and transfer. But in the end, the creators of the project deleted one transfer station from the original concept and shortened the ropeway to almost 500 metres.

The association already explained last year that this was the only way to financially cover the zipline.
The approval process of the zipline was also lengthy.
"The rope also goes over the cavers' land, negotiations with the land owners necessary for successful approval,“ says Gábor Nászaly, a member of the civic association. There were definitely technical problems as well, we had to make minor construction interventions."
The land of ziplines
The first zipline supported by the region was created above the travertine Beňatina quarry. It is 180 metres long and situated at a height of 35 metres. It opened in August 2022.
There should also be a third zipline on the Zemplínska šírava dam in the cadastre of Vinné village. It will be part of the observation tower.
