The report of the Magisterial Inquiry into the company 17 Black and the Panama Papers must be published by the Attorney General without further delay so that the Maltese and Gozitan people can know the extent of corruption and theft, the Nationalist Party said Saturday.
The PN made the call for a second time in 24 hours after it was revealed that the inquiry has been concluded and that former Minister Konrad Mizzi and former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri will be facing charges.
The PN said it expects that the Magisterial Inquiry will not end up in the hands of Robert Abela, allowing him to manipulate it for his own political interests, as he abusively and illegally did with the report of the Inquiry into Vitals and Steward. Should this occur, the Partit Nazzjonalista will fight this blatant abuse through actions and procedures in the Courts and the streets of our country.
The PN said it therefore holds the Attorney General responsible from now for failing to publish the Inquiry report and for any lack of action regarding those individuals whom the Inquiry concluded should be prosecuted before the Courts of our country.
The PN said it also expects that despite the obstacles and incompetence of Attorney General Victoria Buttigieg, the Office of the Attorney General will carry out its duties in the most organised, professional, and serious manner to ensure that no one responsible for the corruption that occurred escapes justice. Therefore, we expect all necessary human and financial resources to be dedicated so that, as quickly as possible, the Office of the Attorney General acts according to the conclusions of the Inquiry and brings before the Courts all those individuals, whoever they may be, who are behind the company 17 Black and what was revealed by the Panama Papers.
The PN recalls that the Magisterial Inquiry into the company 17 Black and the Panama Papers was initiated several years ago on its initiative under the leadership of former PN Leader Simon Busuttil, as well as through the initiative of MEP David Casa and the organisation Repubblika, with the assistance of Dr Jason Azzopardi.
This happened after journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia revealed the existence of the company 17 Black and its connection to former Minister Konrad Mizzi and former Chief of Staff Keith Schembri.
