The second dialogue meeting in preparation for the Cancer Mission Hub in Malta was held with the aim of strengthening cancer research in Malta. The Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth, Research, and Innovation said in a statement that this represents another important step in Malta's effort to continue advancing in research, care, and innovation in regard to cancer.
This event, the Secretariat said, was organised in collaboration with the ECHoS project and the Observatory on Health Systems and Policies. It said that the National Cancer Mission Hub plays a central role in Malta's commitment to fight cancer at a national and international level, while working closely with the European Cancer Mission and the European Beating Cancer Plan. It added that the aim is to strengthen Malta as an active actor in the global fight against cancer while also creating a collaborative ecosystem which includes the perspectives of various parties, including the government, industry, researchers, and civil society.
Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti emphasised the need for a collaborative approach. "Today we are reiterating Malta's commitment to a strategic and coordinated plan for cancer research, treatment and innovation. The National Cancer Mission Hub is not just a centre, but a symbol of Malta's determination to fight against cancer," he said.
The Secretariat stated that the Cancer Research and Innovation Foundation, which is responsible for leading the initiative, focuses on fostering collaboration between all sectors of the community. It continued that the main vision of the National Cancer Mission Hub is to coordinate work in this area, help to align Malta's priorities with Europe, and ensure that innovations in cancer care are accessible to all citizens.
The Secretariat added that the ECHos Project and the Observatory on Health Systems and Policies are working to set up a governance board which includes interested parties from different fields. It concluded that this dialogue served to highlight Malta's collective effort to be at the forefront of cancer care innovation, as well as the determination for the National Cancer Mission Hub to be a pillar in the fight against cancer.
