Gozo designated as 2025 Region

The Ministry said that each year, a different region in Malta is chosen to stage a number of cultural activities in the respective region's localities throughout that particular yeah, with Gozo now being designated as 2025's cultural region.

It continued that throughout the next year, the unique cultural identity of Gozo will be celebrated through a multidisciplinary program which explores and combines traditional and contemporary practices. It stated that this program will cover various cultural and creative disciplines, including dance, music, visual arts, cinema, literature, architecture, theatre, cultural heritage, and gastronomy.

Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri said that the Ministry has been "working for a long time to establish Gozo as a year-round destination and create quality tourism". He commented that with the cultural activities organised by the Ministry, visitors have been attracted to the island even during the shoulder months. He said that Gozo as the 2025 Region of Culture will "continue to strengthen everything that has been built and which is based on the rich cultural heritage and the unique creative potential of the Gozitan island".

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli said that the calendar of activities will be widespread and diversified, continuing that it will include the participation of every locality. She added that the activities are expected to attract tourists to the island throughout all the months of the year. Zerafa Civelli remarked that the island of Gozo is a unique and rich one in relation to the cultural field, and continued that the program which has been prepared by the Gozo region is a vast one with a number of activities linked to Gozo itself. She encouraged all who will be visiting the island to participate in the upcoming activities.

The President of the Gozo Region, Samuel Azzopardi, said that Gozo's designation as the 2025 Region of Culture is an opportunity to celebrate the island's talent while also providing a platform and space for new artists to shine. He concluded by saying that this will bode well for the future of creativity in Gozo, adding that the capital city of Victoria is currently submitting its bid for the European Capital of Culture 2031.
