From January to November 2024, the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Meeting (MARAM) worked with 530 cases with the majority of victims being female Minister for Social Policy Michael Falzon said at the launch of the '16 days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence and Domestic Violence' campaign. He added that 15 of these cases reached the severity to warrant police intervention.
Minister for Social Policy Michael Falzon said that this year the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Meeting (MARAM) worked with 530 cases up until November with the majority of victims being female with 15 of these cases reaching the severity of police intervention. Meanwhile, the Commissioner on Gender-based Violence and Domestic Violence Samantha Pace Gasan said that this campaign is sourced from the 3rd National Strategy on Gender-based Violence and Domestic Violence and has seen 60% of its measures being implemented.
The national campaign '16 days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence and Domestic Violence' was launched on Friday with this year's them being "Together we stop. Together we heal." In these 16 days, the awareness campaign on gender-based and domestic violence will be highlighted on an international level starting from the 25th of November, continuing to the National Day Against Violence on Women until the 10th of December which commemorates Human Rights Day.
Parliamentary Secretary for Equality said that this year's campaign, which will involve dramatic representations in different localities, to give a clear message that everyone must contribute to stopping this "social scourge" whilst understanding the complexities of the issue and the importance of professionals in such cases related to domestic violence. On her part, Dr Lydia Abela stressed that education is key to make the next leap forward with this issue since a change in mentality is needed.
The '16 days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence and Domestic Violence' campaign programme includes theatrical roadshows that are set to raise awareness amongst the general public, free of charge, at 7pm in the following localities:
On the 27th November at Palazzo Xara, L'Isle Adam Band Club, Rabat.
On the 29th November in San Pawl il-Baħar Primary School
On the 4th of December at the Parish Hall in Gzira
On the 7th of December at the Local Council Hall in Fgura
On the 10th of December in Hall 2 at the Ċittadella in Rabat, Gozo
